Pond
Myths & Misconceptions
A pond will
attract mosquitoes & I could get West Nile.
This is simply not true. If your pond is recirculating water, which our
systems do, mosquitoes cannot breed in moving water; they need stagnant
water. Plus, if you have any type of fish in your pond, they will eat
the larvae of mosquitoes.
A pond is
a lot of maintenance, and I just don’t have time for it.
Water gardens are clean and very low maintenance. You can maintain one
in as little as 15 minutes once a month. You don’t even have to
feed the fish. Mother Nature takes care of everything.
We are in
a Drought. Can I still have a pond?
This is true, we are in a drought, but a pond compared to the same area
of grass uses approxamitely 75% less water to maintain. Granted, you use
extra water to fill it when built, but after that it takes very little
water to keep it running. For the statistics on this example visit www.sawyerwaterscaping.com.
It costs a
lot to run a pump all of the time.
The EasyPro pumps we use are built to run all of the time. They are high
quality and run very efficiently. The pump we use for an average sized
8’x11’ pond is an EasyPro 2900. Its average cost to operate
is between $10-$13/month, depending on the Kilowatts/hour in your area.
Considering most pond owners shut their pumps off for the winter months,
you’re looking at around $80/year to operate a pond.
